Applying Business Intelligence and Learning Analytics technics in Distance Learning Environments
Resumo
One of the big challenges in distance learning courses is the high dropout rate. There are many studies considering the causes of this fact and also proposing some actions in the sense of diminish this rate. We believe that one important factor to face this problem is to take previous actions at the moment when problems are detected and is crucial for managers of courses and Learning Management Systems (LMS) to have tools and accurate information to decide and take decisions in advance. This paper presents a tool called FAG that uses Business Intelligence and Learning Analytics techniques to assist educational managers in monitoring the actions of all system’s actors (students, professors and tutors) offering a transversal and complete vision of an actor behavior. Our tool provides analytical and consolidated reports considering all virtual classrooms and system's tools, thus allowing a better management in virtual learning environments.
