AVALIANDO A EFETIVIDADE DE UM AGENTE PEDAGÓGICO ANIMADO EMOCIONAL

Resumo: Este trabalho apresenta a avaliação empírica realizada de um agente pedagógico animado e afetivo, chamado Pat (Pedagogical and Affective Tutor), cujo objetivo principal é fornecer suporte emocional ao aluno, motivando-o, encorajando-o a acreditar em suas próprias habilidades, e incentivando-o a aumentar seus esforços e sua motivação intrínseca. A avaliação foi realizada com 39 alunos de uma turma de 7ª série de uma escola local de ensino médio com o objetivo de verificar o impacto do agente afetivo no desempenho dos estudantes. Os resultados indicam a efetividade do suporte afetivo do agente no desempenho dos alunos.

Abstract: This paper presents an empirical evaluation of an animated pedagogical agent, called Pat (Pedagogical and Affective Tutor), which main goal is to provide emotional support to students: motivating and encouraging them and making them increase their efforts and their intrinsic motivation. The evaluation was accomplished with 39 students of a public middle school in order to verify the impact of the affective agent in the students’ performance. The results indicate the effectiveness of the affective support in students’ performance.
