Aulas remotas on-line utilizando transmissão de vídeo: estudo de caso na Informática da Unisinos

Resumo: O presente artigo descreve um método de efetuar aulas remotas a custo baixo. Nesse método, a transmissão de áudio e vídeo pode ser acompanhada pelos alunos a partir de suas casas, e o requisito mínimo é um modem de 56 kbit/s. O material com slides e animações é disponibilizado com antecedência a fim de não sobrecarregar a rede. Durante o andamento da aula, existe a possibilidade dos alunos interagirem entre si via chat ou com o professor através de perguntas via texto, que chegam a ele imediatamente através de uma página web. A presença é efetuada através de formulário próprio, e o acesso é controlado mediante senha. Caso um aluno falte aula ou queira rever a transmissão, pode fazer isso através do servidor de vídeo sob demanda desenvolvido na Universidade, pois a aula é digitalizada simultaneamente com a transmissão.

Abstract: This paper describes a low cost remote class method accomplished at UNISINOS University. In this method, the teacher’s live voice and video is transmitted through the Internet, and the students attend the class from home, with the minimal technical requirement of a 56 kbps modem. They follow the class using a previously downloaded material, in order not to consume more bandwidth. During the class, the students can interact to each other via chat or to the teacher by text, posing questions through a form in a specific web-page, which is sent immediately to the teacher’s computer. The attendance to the class is controlled via a form, and only authorized students are allowed to access the video transmission. If a student misses the class or wants to review it, he/she can watch via a Video on Demand server, because the class is recorded and digitalized simultaneously with the transmission.
