Abstract: Personal computers are increasingly popular in schools. However, there is little consensus as to how they can be effectively used for learning. Tangible interfaces for Education are innovative didactic resources in which computation is embedded in concrete objects, bringing together benefits of physical manipulation and forms of interaction provided by technology. In this work, we present a critical analysis of tangible interfaces for Education, looking at aspects we consider fundamental for their effectiveness in schools, such as: accessibility, scaffolding, adequacy to classrooms and curriculum, collaborative use, user engagement and simple interface.
